Our Service Manager at Caldecott Fostering
My name is Karen Cann, and I have recently joined Caldecott Fostering as its Service Manager. It’s my role to expand our existing therapeutic fostering service (rated “outstanding” by Ofsted) into the East Midlands, looking at areas such as Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, and South Lincolnshire.
I have always been motivated by the desire to help others, and this has led me to working in social care for over 30 years. I began my career working for a charity that provided residential services for young adults who were Deafblind and had additional complex disabilities; I eventually rose to the post of Registered Manager. For the past 20 years, I’ve worked across various fostering agencies in the independent and charitable sector, as a supervising social worker and as a Registered Manager. My experience has helped me gain a really deep and valuable understanding of the unique nature of fostering, and how much a foster carer really wants to make a positive and lasting difference to a child’s life.
It’s a privilege to have joined Caldecott Fostering; it’s evident that our services are truly outstanding and child-focused. Our therapeutic services are delivered in line with the “Caldecott Relational Model”, which underpins our ethos, values, and practice. The model supports children and young people to feel safe through the development of nurturing, reparative relationships. Our Relational Model of Care provides a secure base in which our young people can start their recovery from past trauma in a positive and healthy way.
We are part of the Caldecott Foundation, a charity focused on giving children and young people a strong, stable base to their lives. Belonging to the Foundation allows our fostering families and children to access our in-house therapists and wrap-around service that enables each child to receive the support they need without delay, and our foster carers’ work is recognised with competitive allowances and other benefits.
I am passionate about supporting traumatised children to realise their full potential once they start on their journey of recovery. The therapeutic ethos here at Caldecott Fostering holds children and young people at the heart of everything that we do.
As the Service Manager here in the East Midlands, I am looking to recruit families who have the patience, kindness, and resilience to work with traumatised children in a therapeutic way in order to support them to navigate their journey of recovery. We want our foster families to be as dedicated to our therapeutic ethos as we are, and to be committed to continuously developing their knowledge and skills through our comprehensive training programme. Becoming a Foster Carer with Caldecott Fostering means joining a community which is truly dedicated to transforming young people’s lives.
